Vietnam Unveils New E-Visa Portal for International Travelers
Great news for travelers planning a trip to Vietnam! Starting November 11, 2024, applying for an electronic visa (e-Visa) will be even easier thanks to a brand new, user-friendly portal.
The Vietnamese e-Visa program has been continuously improving since its launch in February 2017. More nationalities are now eligible, and the visa options have expanded to include different types and lengths of stay. This makes the e-Visa a perfect choice for travelers planning their Vietnamese adventure.
The Immigration Department is launching a completely redesigned e-Visa portal on November 11th, 2024 to simplify the application process. According to Mr. Pham Dang Khoa, Director of the Immigration Department, this new portal will boast a user-friendly interface and offer answers to frequently asked questions in both English and Vietnamese.
Don’t worry if you’re familiar with the old e-Visa website (evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn) – it will still be operational alongside the new one. The new portal can be accessed at the simpler address evisa.gov.vn, or through the URL thithucdientu.gov.vn.
Required Information and Documents for e-Visa Application
On the new e-Visa platform, applicants need to upload a passport photo along with a copy of the passport’s information page. The system then compares the uploaded photo with the one in the passport, calculates a match percentage, and extracts data from the passport to automatically populate the e-Visa application form. Applicants must then verify and complete several personal details (such as surname, first name, date of birth, gender, nationality), passport details (including passport number, issue date, and expiration date), as well as professional, travel, and visa type information.
Since August 15, 2023, citizens from all countries are eligible to apply for an e-Visa to Vietnam. Applicants can select between a single-entry visa for US$25 or a multiple-entry visa for US$50. Initially, the e-Visa allowed stays of up to 30 days, but as of August 2023, it now permits stays of up to 90 days.
